I'm pretty sure I'm completely re-doing this site. I love reading blogs, but frankly I'm not that great and writing them. To me it's a chore usually, not something I get excited about. So I'm going to make the site into something I like (if I can figure out how to upload stuff to google) so I'll actually enjoy updating :).

I chopped off all of my hair. Even before I did it I kind of thought I wouldn't like it, but I really wanted to do it anyway. I've never had short hair, so it was more out of curiosity than anything. It's okay. Not really my style, it's a little more funky than I am. But it's okay.

Bothering my Dog

Yesterday me and my boyfriend spent a fair amount of time bugging my dog. First, when I was at target I bought this sweet lumberjack hat for him. We made him wear it for a few minutes and, as you can tell, he was very pleased.

So then after that, also out of boredom, I decided I was going to dye a heart onto his butt. I used to do this when he was little and he actually doesn't really mind too much, except for the fact that he hates having to wear that cone collar thing. If you're interested, all I did was put his cone collar on so he doesn't get sick on hair dye, apply the hair dye, then after about five minutes shampoo it out.

Let's see... today I plan on working on my bike a bit and finishing up a collage I'm working on, so there are a couple of nice things to come :).

Back from Ohio

I got back from Ohio last night, woot! It was a lot of fun. We mostly did a lot of lounging around, but it was really nice to meet the boyfriend's family and friends and such. Now that I'm back I'll be babysitting my mom's dog for a couple of weeks, as my parents are going to Hawaii.

Oh our way back to the airport we went to this place called old man's cave, which was a really pretty park sorta deal with caves. It snowed for the first time this year (I believe) right before we went so it was really really pretty! I didn't really take any pictures during the trip, but my boyfriend did a little picture duty while we were there :)

Not the best picture of me, I know, but I wanted to show that I knitted my scarf! I'm really excited to do some neat knitting projects, though all of those weird knitting abbreviations are throwing me off a bit. I want to at least get a hat done before school starts.

I bought a neat book on paper design and I'm also pretty excited about that. Tomorrow I'm going to buy some ingredients for a few of the ideas listed in the book and hopefully start on a collage :).

And my bike is almost done, so that will be up here soon as well :).

Buying Things

I apologize, but this is just another post of awesome things I've bought, or am thinking about buying :).

Boots:

I've been on this search for great honey-ish colored boots for a while. Thrift stores have been a let down and I don't want to pay 400 dollars for new frye boots. There are some amazing ones on ebay, but I just don't have the courage to invest over 50 dollars for something that I've never tried on and can't return. (if you're an 8.5, try these, these, and these) So alas, I checked Dillards and actually found a few pairs that I really liked. I settled on these Alex Marie guys that were in my budget, comfy, and close to what I was looking for.

Sweatshirt and Tee:

So I've resisted buying things on etsy for the entire time I've been selling there, but I just lovelovelove these screens by Timber. I rarely see screened clothing that I HAVE to have, but these are right up my alley. I just hope they're not too big :-/.

And Lastly, Shoes:

I am absolutely in love with these guys listed on the victoria's secret website. They're on clearance and I have a 25 dollar gift certificate there, so they'd only because 27 dollars plus shipping! I might end up buying them even though I have 24624 pairs of shoes. My boyfriend definitely gave me crap for considering buying them instead of some new undies or something, but I'm in love. Opinions?

Oh, and I leave in two days, woop!

Horrible Blogger and Thrift Hits

I've been up to no good lately, but I have quite a bit of disposable income via Christmas and good grade bonuses (long story). This disposable income is being spent on a) my trip to Ohio next week b) stuff to fix up the 60s schwinn bike my boyfriend got me for christmas (!!) and c) doing a bit of clothing shopping.

Today I stopped by goodwill to drop off a garbage bag full of unloved shoes from the back of my closet and was happily surprised when I found this sweet jewelry (below), two cardigans, a cordoroy dress that needs some hemming, and a Dior sweater. The Dior sweater was originally for my boyfriend, but I tried it on and realized it fit me better :).

I adoreeeeee the cameo bracelet and the gold/silver flower necklace, though I don't feel the flower necklace was well captured in this scan. I'm probably going to break up the pin up girl bracelets when I figure out something to do with them, but as of yet I have no ideas.

Also, I apologize that I've been an absolutely terrible blogger as of late, huff. I did have finals last week, which were very very important (and I got 5 As and 1 B!). This week, though, I haven't really been up to too much, I've just been anti-computer.

Lack of Updates

Ugh, I apologize for the lack of updates this week (and the week coming up). My family is celebrating Christmas this weekend because my brother, his girlfriend, and my boyfriend are all going to be gone on Christmas. So I've been preparing for that.

Also, I have five finals this coming week and all of them determine whether I maintain my As or drop down to Bs. That's kind of a big deal.

Sorrrrrry, but some things come first and some things do not, and unfortunately this is something that does not.

Today's Outfit

Nothing too exciting here. Dress is from Target (erin stuff), cardigan is from the limited, tights are opaque tights under fishnets to give it some sweet texture (why do I have fishnets?). Oh and I have these really cute sequence heart clips in my hair from wetseal. Oh, and I can't help but notice people hardly ever smile in pictures like these. Why is that?

I love the details on this cardigan. If I remember correctly I bought it for like, 10 dollars down from 70. I'm a sucker for a good sale.

People always tell me "wow, you're looking really dressed up for class today" but really, the only reason I tend to look dressed up is because I wear "dressy" colors. If this dress with pink and I wasn't wearing any black I probably wouldn't get any comments. And besides, I'd usually rather be a bit overdressed than look like I just rolled out of bed. I really enjoy putting outfits together so I'll take any chance I get to do that. Sometimes rolling out of bed is fine, but generally it's just boring.

I'm one of those people who starts celebrating Christmas as soon as Thanksgiving is over. Mostly because I love winter so much and Christmas is usually just a sign that winter is here. Screenprinting

So I got this sweet beginner's screenprint kit a few days ago and have been having a bit of fun with it. It's really messy and I probably shouldn't be doing it on my cream carpet, but I don't have any other place to do crafts.

The first screen I did was this bow design I made, seen on the pillow above. I put it on a couple of t-shirts and some fabric to make bags out of as well. They didn't turn out amazing, but I'm excited to do the photo emulsion method tomorrow or next weekend or something.

Howto: Easiest Pie Ever

So the kitchen pretty much got taken over by my mom today, but I still wanted to make some sort of dessert for tomorrow. I decided to make a reeses pie from this no bake junk food deliciousness that I love. It literally takes 10 minutes, so if you're interested in making something for tomorrow but don't want to deal with it, here's a simple recipe.

You need:

2 sticks of butter
1 premade oreo crust
2 reeses no-bake boxes (they're in the baking isle at walmart)

1. Unwrap the crust and follow the directions on the back of the Reeses box on how to make the FILLING. It's 1/4 cup melted butter, peanut butter filling, and powder filling. Now pour that gunk into the crust.

2. Follow the directions for the crust on the Reeses box, but double the butter. This will make it 4 tablespoons. You need to do this so it will spread better across the top without sinking into the peanut butter as much. It will look like this:

3. Now make the peanut butter filling from the second box. Follow the same directions as mentions in step 1. Now pour it on top of pie.

4. To get the chocolate topping a little bit melted you can throw it in a bowl of hot water or just hold it over the faucet for a few seconds. After it feels a little softer squeeze it onto the top of everything. Do this with the packets from both boxes.

5. Swirl the chocolate around with a butter knife so you can see swirls of chocolate and peanut butter.

And your finished product:

Throw it in the fridge for a few hours (or in my case, overnight) and take it out about half an hour before you're going to serve it. yum!

I think every Tuesday I'm just going to post a picture or piece of art or something by me that I like. I took this one in Austin in the gardens at Zilker Park. I'd definitely move to Austin if it weren't so darn hot in the summer. I'm going back to the west coast when I graduate. Or maybe Canada. Or the east. Just leaving the middle.

ps. UPS just delivered our turkey! I'm excited because this is a clear sign that I get three days off of school and good food :).

Nostalgia: The Spirograph

Okay, so maybe I was the only one, but when I was little I used to have this thing called a spirograph that I was completely obsessed with. I remember being 6 and using it all the way from my house to Disneyland, which is about 5 hours away (I'm sure my parents were happy about that).

So I was on Fred Flare a while back and found something pretty much exactly like my spirograph only more expensive, called the hypotrochoid art set and knew I absolutely had to have it. I got it a few days ago and have been playing with it a bunch. I can't wait until I get some silk screen supplies so I can put the sweet designs it makes onto tote bags and the likes.

oh, and I got some adorableeeeeee Erin Featherston stuff that I'll probably post tomorrow. I've been way too busy with school this week, so I apologize for the lack of updates.

Let's see, today I'm sporting my fake leather Cathy Jean cowboy boots, black leggings, denim mini dress from goodwill, and a lacey (which you can't see) shirt from forever 21.

Oh, I try to keep the looks on my face as interesting as possible, heh.

Speaking of my denim dress though, has anyone else been having a terrible time at thrift stores lately? I guess I'm just so in love with summer clothes and mini dresses that it's breaking my heart to see them replaced with pants that never fit right and jackets that are either too big or pilling up all over. Bring the summer back!

ps. I don't want to make this into a fashion blog (there are so many great ones out there), so sorry that fashion is the only thing on my brain the last few days.

Erin Featherston for Target

Holy oh my gosh, so I'm in love with pretty much everything in the Erin Featherston line that is coming to Target [this sunday?]. I'll definitely be over there buying some dresses. Lucky for me I don't live in THE most fashionable town in the world, so whenever Target drops a new line I don't have to worry about it selling out.

I guess nitrolicious didn't want to be plugged/linked/advertised here, so you'll just wait until the line drops to see all of the cuteness :)

I got all dressed and ready today before I checked the weather report, or even looked outside. The weather report says scattered thunderstorms. I look outside and the street is wet.

So now it's umbrella, jeans, and raincoat time. :(.

Howto: Poor Man's Color Flash

So there's this really neat looking ringflash that those crazy lomography people make. It takes pretty colored pictures and makes it convenient. On the other hand, this flash only works on lomo cameras and is 60 dollars. So I introduce to you: the poor man's color flash.

I love lomography, but that stuff can get expensive! So here is the cheapest way to have color flashes. Cheaper than gel filters, fancy ringflashes... anything. All you need is a few empty slide holders, cellophane, tape, and scissors.

Open up the slide holders. If they had negatives in them, put them somewhere they won't get scratched.

Cut three squares of cellophane that are a little bigger than the slide opening. Tape them together (it doesn't have to be fancy).

Tape those three pieces into the slide. Tape each side so it doesn't move around (but again, doesn't have to be fancy).

Tape it shut. You're done. Was that not the easiest howto ever?

Hold the slides up to your flash (and make sure the flash is on of course) to get a nice little burst of colored light on your pictures. The very first picture up there has a green slide over the flash. The one right here has yellow. The one right below has pink.

If you don't have cellophane, you might think about just buying them from my etsy store. It would be cheaper than buying the cellophane.

Now wasn't that easy?

My Favorite Things: Avalon Organics Toner

I'm a huge fan of Avalon Organics products, but their Lavender toner is by far my favorite. I use this morning and night and it's just so refreshing. My skin is really sensitive and dries out or breaks out very easily.

Personally, I mix 2 tablespoons of tea tree oil with avalon organics hydrating toner and promise there is nothing better, hehe. Just wait until there's enough room to fit the tea tree oil into the toner and pour it on in. Then make sure you shake it up before you use it, as the oil and water aren't going to mix. The tea tree oil is super refreshing and the only thing I can use to prevent breakouts that doesn't dry out my skin. Mixed with the toner is feels like I'm having an herbal fiesta on my face.

I follow up with my favorite moisturizer and wake up every morning with silky soft skin. I swear this toner/tea tree oil combination is the best thing that has ever happened to my skin. Plus I like the fact that it's natural. On the Avalon website they present a very good point: skin is an organ and what you put on it can be absorbed into the body, so you should probably keep it as chemical free as possible. I completely agree with this school of thought and suggest you keep the Benzoyl Peroxide off your face. If it bleaches your clothes, you probably shouldn't put it on your face.

Faux Pas I'm loving: Tube Socks With Pumps

Right now I'm in that transition phase when I'm clinging to my heels but knowing they're soon going to have to be adjusted for winter. We're having a little cold spell in Texas (which I love because it's about 60 degrees out, ideal light jacket weather) and my toes have been getting a bit freezy, so I've been quite the wearer of tube socks with heels and jeans. I mostly wear tights and dresses, but I've been loving the tube socks and pumps a lot.

It's so wrong, but oh so right, heh. I'm pretty sure anyone can pull off anything with a little confidence in it.

Howto: Weekend Packing

So I went on a trip to San Antonio this weekend (about a six hour drive). We went down to the river walk which was really just a bunch of restaurants, but it had a very nice feel to it. After a day there we went up to the biggest outlets in Texas in San Marcos and did a bit of shopping. I'll post pictures of my shopping loot later this week, but I have a plethora of exams so it might not be until Friday. Anyways, I decided it might be a fun idea to put my guide on packing up here.

1. Clothing:

Always roll clothing tightly if you don't want it to wrinkle as badly
Pack day dresses (and tights, if it's chilly) instead of pants and tops. They take up a lot less room (and look better, of course). They're also more versatile if plans change.
Pack at least one more pair of undies than days you are staying. That's probably the worst thing you could run out of. If you plan on swimming, pack at least three more pairs than days you are staying.
For pajamas, pack for different temperatures. I always pack a pair of shorts, a tank top, a pair of pants, and a long sleeved tee. You don't want to be too hot or too cold, the people you're staying with might keep their house/hotel at a funny temperature.
Pack a dirty clothes bag to throw all of your used garments in.

2. Toiletries:

Remember to bring a hair straightener if you use one regularly. You can usually find a blow dryer that works, but straighteners are harder to come by.
Shampoo, razor, face cleanser, all that jazz. That's pretty obvious.
Pack a headband or clip to pull your hair back at night when it's time to wash your face.
Tampons! I don't care if you're two weeks away from starting your period, pack them. If nothing else, your friend might need one.
Makeup. Again, obvious.

3. Purse Stuff:

I know that little oil absorbing strips are pretty much the same as toilet paper, but I swear by them. If you're going to be out all day they make you feel a lot cleaner after you use them.
Bring a book that can keep you occupied when you have some downtime.
An mp3 player is an essential when driving a long way. I brought my 30g ipod and it definitely did the trick.
When traveling, people tend to get headaches a lot due to stress, different climates, and lack of water (so drink a lot!). Bring some pain medication so you can zap that headache before it ruins your day.

Howto: Bow Headband

For this project all you're going to need is ribbon (one about two inches thick and one less than half an inch thick), a glue gun, and heavy duty craft glue. I grabbed some ribbon at hobby lobby that I fell in love with and it was only $1.50 (half off sale!) for the roll, so this is also a very inexpensive project :). Just make sure the you pick out ribbons that don't have a wire edge and you're good to go.

Cut a piece of the thick ribbon 6 to 10 inches long, depending on how big you want your bow to be. Fold the ribbon into thirds, lengthwise, then fold one end to the halfway mark and glue it down. I tacked mine with a pin in this picture so you could see it a bit better. Now glue the other end to the halfway mark.

After both ends are secured to the middle, cut a strand of your thin ribbon, about two inches or however much it takes to wrap around the middle. Glue that guy into place with hot glue. When you flip it over you should have a very nice bow.

Play around until the bow is pulled how you like it, then cut a strand at least 3 feet long of your thin ribbon. About a foot in, glue your bow down with a heavy duty craft glue (I use E6000 that you can get at any craft stores).

Let your new headband dry overnight and wear it with pride the next day.

This is basically just an introduction post to... introduce what this site is going to be about. I like to think I have some neat ideas that I'd love to share with others but have no real way of going about that. I started this site so that maybe someone will stumble upon an idea that they like. I'll be posting simple "how to" craft and recipe ideas as well as general things that I'm interested in.

I'd love to hear your comments and see pictures of things that you've made when the site has more articles on it and that's probably the main reason I build this. This blog will hopefully be very photo heavy.
